The sentences around the book

Copy.ai

Marketing and blurbsFreemiumFiction and nonfiction

Started as a short-form copywriter and has spent the last few years becoming a go-to-market platform. You can still draft blurbs, emails, and ads. You may also find the homepage talking to a sales team instead of a novelist. Use it for the sentences around the book, then leave.

Best for

Promotional drafts, with the caveat that the company is no longer building for hobbyist writers first.

Pricing

Freemium. A free tier has existed, but the product has moved toward sales and marketing workflows. Confirm what a solo author can still do without a sales call.

Writer's Toolbelt review

Copy.ai

Once a copywriting app, now a "GTM AI" platform for sales and marketing teams. Its Chat plan is the entry point.

Chat plan per month, billed monthly

saving with annual billing

What it is

Copy.ai now presents itself as a GTM (go-to-market) AI platform. It positions itself against "dozens of copilots and point solutions" by offering one place to "codify best practices, unify data, connect teams". It covers use cases such as a prospecting cockpit, content creation, inbound lead processing and account-based marketing. Its building blocks are Chat, with access to OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models, and Workflows, chains of AI actions that run on credits.

Who it's for

  • Publishers and author businesses with a sales or marketing function.
  • Small teams that want shared chat access to several AI models.

Solo authors writing blurbs will find cheaper and simpler options.

Key features in practice

  • Chat with unlimited words and projects, and access to models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google.
  • Workflows. Multi-step automations, for example turning a press release into social posts and emails.
  • Workflow credits. The FAQ explains that "a credit represents a specific amount of computational power", so costs depend on complexity.
  • Content creation for SEO, thought leadership and social.

Using it as a writer

  1. Use Chat as a shared model hub if you're a small press with several people.
  2. Build one launch workflow, from a book brief to a blurb, ad set and email sequence, if you're on a plan with workflows.
  3. Edit for genre voice.

Strengths

  • Several leading models in one Chat plan.
  • Five seats at the entry price.
  • Workflow automation for teams.

For a team, the Chat plan is a reasonable multi-model workspace. Most individual authors should look at Rytr or a general assistant instead.

  • Marketing and blurbs

    Anyword

Generates marketing lines and scores which variant it thinks will perform. The score is a prediction from past ad data, not a reader in your genre. Useful when you are testing blurb or ad angles and humble enough to ignore a number that flatters the wrong sentence.

Best for Testing blurb and ad variants when you will still choose with a human ear.

  • Audiobooks and covers

    Canva Magic Studio

Templates, Magic Media images, and Magic Write copy in the same place you will actually export a paperback wrap or an Instagram square. The risk is the Canva look: competent, familiar, and easy to spot. A fine way to ship a decent ebook cover or launch graphic if you push past the first template.

Best for Authors who need a workable cover, social graphics, and a blurb draft without hiring a designer yet.

    ChatGPT

The general assistant most writers already have open. Useful for brainstorming, blurb variants, and line rewrites if you paste the scene and say what you want. It does not hold a novel together unless you build that memory yourself with projects or files, and it will invent sources if you let it.

Best for Writers who want one flexible assistant and will bring their own outline, pages, and skepticism.
