Before or beside the draft

Margo

An AI headcanon generator for fanfic writers, roleplayers, and worldbuilders. It drafts character headcanons, personality beats, missing scenes, what-if branches, and backstories, and a result can be saved or shared by link. Google sign-in is required to generate. Text goes to third-party models through OpenRouter, and the 50 welcome Sparks expire after 7 days.

Best for

Fanfic writers, roleplayers, and worldbuilders who want structured character headcanons and scene sparks, and who will buy Sparks after a 7-day welcome grant.

Pricing

Usage-based. On 5 November 2026 the pricing page opened on one-time packs: $4.90 for 500 Sparks and $14.90 for 2,000 Sparks, valid 365 days. The Monthly membership tab listed Plus at $5.90/month for 1,200 Sparks and Pro at $11.90/month for 3,000 Sparks, valid 90 days. Pro was marked Recommended. The page description says new accounts receive 50 welcome Sparks for 7 days. A standard generation is 10 Sparks and a rewrite of one direction is 3. Tax is added at checkout. The welcome grant is not an ongoing free plan.

Character headcanons, missing scenes, and what-if branches for fandom writers. 50 welcome Sparks for 7 days, then a pack or a monthly plan.

Full disclosure: I also build ProseEngine, an AI fiction-writing tool listed on the same terms as everyone else.

What it is

Margo is a browser tool that drafts character headcanons and scene sparks for fandom writers. The home page's line is to turn one character into three headcanon ideas. The generator asks for one name, an optional fandom, an angle, a tone, and a canon distance, and it is priced at 10 Sparks for three directions. A rewrite of one direction is 3 Sparks. The about page calls it an independent project for character headcanons, missing scenes, alternate choices, and character pressure.

This review is what the public pages said on 2 November 2026, plus a note from the founder that day where the pages are silent. We did not open an account, press Generate, or buy Sparks. The Crowley card on the generator is the sample already on the page. It is not a result from this review.

The pages do not name a person or a company. The footer is © 2026 Margo. Contact is support@headcanon.top. The founder says Margo is run by one person, Abi, based in China, and that it is not a company. The about page says "independent" and stops there.

The public product updates begin on 7 October 2026, with an entry titled "Margo: four writing tools, four languages." The page does not use the word launch. The founder says it launched in October 2026.

Margo character headcanon generator with angle and tone controls and a sample card titled Crowley checks the plants before he checks himself
The character headcanon generator, captured 2 November 2026. The form is public. The Crowley card is the sample already on the page. Generate three directions is marked 10 Sparks. New take is marked 3.

Who it's for

  • Fanfic writers, roleplayers, and worldbuilders who already have a character and want the next beat. The generator is built around one name at a time: a habit, a missing scene, a first meeting, a canon gap. The generators index adds missing scenes, what-if branches, dialogue, backstories, personalities, and demon and villain names.
  • Writers who want a saved note, not a finished chapter. The terms say results stay readable after Sparks expire, and that a public share link shows the selected result to anyone who has the link.
  • A weaker fit if you want a manuscript editor, a story bible across a novel, or a model that runs on your own key. None of those is described. It is also a weaker fit if you will not sign in with Google. The terms say Google sign-in identifies the account, and the founder says sign-in is required to generate.

On this directory it is the listing aimed at fandom headcanons. Prospero publishes fanfiction and originals in a library. Margo does not describe a library or a chapter editor.

Key features in practice

The list is what the public pages say. This review did not press the buttons inside an account.

  • Three directions, then one rewrite. The generator labels them closest to canon, most intense, and most unexpected. The sample card on the page has a title, tags, a headcanon, a "why it works" note, a canon anchor, and scene sparks. Copy text, copy link, and share to X sit under the card. New take is marked 3 Sparks and, the generator FAQ says, replaces one direction and leaves the other two.
  • Angle, tone, and canon distance. Angles on the page include first meeting, first kiss, domestic, protective, jealousy, missing scene, secret habit, post-canon, comfort, and rivals tension. Tones include tender, angst, funny, chaotic, soft, and dark. Canon distance is canon-safe, canon-gap, or AU-leaning. The page says these modes guide the draft and do not check canon. Optional fields cover relationship pressure, canon anchors, must-include, and avoid.
  • One character at a time. The generator FAQ says a ship is two passes, one name each, so each pass keeps a center. Fandom can be left blank for an original character.
  • Nine generators, all marked Live now. On 2 November 2026 the index listed an AI character dialogue generator, a demon name generator, a villain name generator, a backstory generator, a personality generator, the character headcanon generator, a missing scene generator, a what-if generator, and a character pressure generator.
  • Saved results and a canvas. The terms say results are stored on the account and remain readable after Sparks expire. The 9 October 2026 update describes a canvas of cards. This review did not open it.
  • Four languages. The menu offers English, Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish. The 7 October update says that choice covers the interface and the generated writing.
  • The form is public. Generation is not. The generator and the pricing page both opened with a Spark balance of 0 and no account menu beyond a sign-in icon. We did not press Generate. The terms and the founder both tie a generation to Google sign-in.

Pricing (checked 2 November 2026)

The pricing page opened on One-time packs. Monthly membership is the other tab. The welcome grant is not a card on either tab. It is in the page description: new accounts receive 50 welcome Sparks for 7 days. The terms say the same expiry. At 10 Sparks a generation, 50 Sparks is five standard generations if you do not rewrite. A rewrite is 3.

Offer Price Sparks What the page adds
Welcome $0 50, for 7 days In the pricing page description. Up to 5 standard generations before rewrites. Google sign-in.
Plus $5.90/month 1,200 a month Up to 120 standard generations. Sparks valid 90 days.
Pro $11.90/month 3,000 a month Up to 300 standard generations. Marked Recommended, and selected, when the monthly tab opened. The line says 19% less per Spark vs Plus. Sparks valid 90 days. Renews monthly. Cancel anytime.
Spark Pack $4.90 once 500 Up to 50 standard generations. Valid 365 days. Selected when the page opened.
Spark Pack Plus $14.90 once 2,000 Up to 200 standard generations. The card says 24% less per Spark. Valid 365 days.

The "up to" counts match the Spark total divided by 10. $14.90 for 2,000 is about 24% less per Spark than $4.90 for 500. $11.90 for 3,000 is about 19% less per Spark than $5.90 for 1,200. The slogans match the arithmetic.

The terms say welcome Sparks expire after 7 days, purchased one-time Sparks after 365 days, and each monthly batch after 90 days. Earliest-expiring Sparks are used first. Monthly plans renew automatically "when checkout is available." Cancel from the account to stop the next renewal. Paid Sparks keep their original expiry. Eligible payments offer a refund request in the account. Submitting the request does not mean the money has been refunded. Checkout shows the price and the tax. The privacy policy says payment providers process the card and Margo does not collect the full number. The pages we read do not name the provider. We did not open checkout.

USD on headcanon.top/pricing on 2 November 2026. Bars are the monthly prices. Plus is $5.90 and Pro is $11.90. The welcome grant is $0 and lasts 7 days, so the free bar is not an ongoing plan. The packs are one-time, so they are not drawn as monthly bars. The page opened on One-time packs. Monthly membership is the other tab. Tax is added at checkout. A standard generation is 10 Sparks. The up-to counts on the cards are that total divided by 10.
Margo pricing page on One-time packs, Spark Pack at $4.90 for 500 Sparks and Spark Pack Plus at $14.90 for 2,000 Sparks
The pricing page, captured 2 November 2026, opened on One-time packs. Spark Pack is $4.90 for 500 Sparks. Spark Pack Plus is $14.90 for 2,000. The line under the button says one payment, no subscription, and Sparks valid for 365 days.

Using it as a writer

  1. Read the sample on the public generator before you sign in. The Crowley card shows the shape: a headcanon, why it fits, a canon anchor, and scene sparks. The page says canon distance does not verify canon.
  2. Count the welcome grant as five generations, for 7 days. A rewrite costs 3 of those 50 Sparks. After the week, the next generation needs a pack or a plan.
  3. Read both tabs before you pay. The page opens on packs. Plus and Pro are on Monthly membership. The expiry is 365 days on a pack and 90 days on a monthly batch.
  4. Treat a share link as public. The terms and the privacy policy both say anyone with the link can read that result.
  5. Send deletion to support@headcanon.top. The privacy policy promises no fixed deletion period. Records tied to an unresolved payment or a legal duty may be kept.

Strengths

  • The output shape is printed, and a sample is on the page without an account. Three directions, a reason, a canon anchor, and scene sparks. The cost is on the button: 10, and 3 for a new take.
  • Both prices are numbers. Packs are $4.90 and $14.90. Monthly is $5.90 and $11.90. The three expiry clocks are in the terms: 7 days, 365 days, and 90 days.
  • The route for the text is named. Inputs go to the configured AI provider through OpenRouter. The privacy policy says Margo stores the account id, the character and scene inputs, and the generated results.
  • The terms say saved results outlive the Sparks. A balance can expire and the note is still there to read.
  • The languages are named. English, Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish, on the menu and in the 7 October update.

Weaknesses

  • The free path ends. Fifty Sparks last 7 days. There is no lasting free plan on the pricing page. After that, generation is a pack or a subscription.
  • Training is the founder's sentence, not the policy's. The privacy policy, updated 7 October 2026, does not say whether inputs or outputs train a model, and it offers no opt-out. The founder says Margo does not use inputs or outputs to train a Margo model, that Margo has no model of its own, and that providers reached through OpenRouter follow their own policies. There is no switch in the product that changes that. Deletion has no clock. That is a moderate privacy position next to tools in this directory that name a gateway, skip an opt-out, and set no retention limit.
  • The cookie section is shorter than the page. On 2 November 2026 the public generator loaded Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics, measurement id G-4B9DX056X3, and the browser called /api/analytics/. The privacy policy mentions an anonymous session cookie, language in local storage, and session storage that keeps a generation id and not the input text. It does not name Clarity or Google Analytics. No consent bar was on the page.
  • The operator is not on the site. The about page says independent. The footer is © 2026 Margo. Contact is support@headcanon.top. The founder says Abi, one person based in China, runs it. That name is not on the about page.
  • Ownership is not on the terms page. Margo's terms (updated 7 October 2026) don't say who owns the text you generate, and don't claim a licence over it either. The terms do say you are responsible for permissions before you publish, and that the draft may infringe.
  • No age number in the terms. The founder says 14 or older, and that Google's sign-in age rules apply. The terms do not print a number.
  • It is new. The updates page starts on 7 October 2026. No independent review was found on 2 November 2026. Canon distance is a steering control. The page says it does not check the source.

How it compares

  • Margo vs Prospero. Prospero is a library and a writing studio for fiction and fanfiction, with optional chapter AI and a public shelf. Margo returns three headcanon directions and does not describe a place to publish the chapter. See the Prospero review.
  • Margo vs NovelAI. NovelAI is a story model with a lorebook, on a monthly plan, built to continue a long draft. Margo is a character note and a scene spark, billed in Sparks, with no model of its own. See the NovelAI review.
  • Margo vs DreamGen. DreamGen continues a scene inside a scenario you edit. Margo stops at structured directions, a missing scene, or a what-if branch. See the DreamGen review.
  • Margo vs ProseEngine. ProseEngine is made by the person who runs this site. See the disclosure above. It is a fiction studio with a codex and scene generation, priced in euros, with a free plan. We are not scoring that matchup.

Verdict

Margo is a focused headcanon generator with a public price. On 2 November 2026 the packs were $4.90 and $14.90, the monthly plans were $5.90 and $11.90, and the page description gave new accounts 50 Sparks for 7 days. The sample card shows the shape before you sign in with Google. The privacy policy names OpenRouter and a deletion email, and it does not offer an opt-out or a retention limit. The founder says there is no Margo model. The terms do not say who owns the draft.

Use the public sample, and the 50 Sparks if you want a week of it, before you buy a year of Sparks. Do not put a private manuscript here expecting a novel studio. Do not treat canon-safe as a fact check. And do not read the about page as naming who runs it. That name is the founder's, not the page's.

The scores are a reading of that public offer, with the founder's note where the pages are silent.

Noted on 5 November 2026

Both pricing tabs matched 2 November. One-time packs were still $4.90 for 500 Sparks and $14.90 for 2,000, valid 365 days. Monthly membership was still Plus at $5.90 for 1,200 Sparks and Pro at $11.90 for 3,000, valid 90 days. Pro was still marked Recommended and selected. The welcome line was still 50 Sparks for 7 days. The privacy policy was still dated 7 October 2026. Its account section names Google sign-in and Supabase for authentication.

The nav also includes Academy, a blog, and an editorial policy. Academy is a set of lessons. The 27 October update says two worksheets are filled in by the writer, with no AI writing. The editorial policy, also dated 7 October 2026, says it covers tool pages, guides, and blog articles, and that live generated results are not reviewed editorial. It says AI may assist a draft of a permanent page, and that the page is selected and reviewed before publication.

FAQ

Is Margo free? For a week. The pricing page description says a new account receives 50 welcome Sparks for 7 days after Google sign-in. At 10 Sparks a generation, that is five standard generations before any rewrite. A rewrite is 3 Sparks. There is no lasting free plan on the pricing page.

How much does it cost? On 2 November 2026 the page opened on one-time packs: Spark Pack $4.90 for 500 Sparks and Spark Pack Plus $14.90 for 2,000, valid 365 days. The Monthly membership tab listed Plus at $5.90/month for 1,200 Sparks and Pro at $11.90/month for 3,000, valid 90 days. Pro was marked Recommended. Tax is added at checkout. The terms say monthly plans renew until you cancel, and that a refund request is not itself a refund.

Does Margo train on what I type? The privacy policy does not say. It says character and scene inputs are sent to the configured AI provider through OpenRouter, and that Margo stores those inputs and the generated results. The founder says Margo does not use inputs or outputs to train a Margo model, that there is no Margo model, and that providers reached through OpenRouter follow their own policies. There is no in-product opt-out. There is no fixed deletion period. Deletion is a request to support@headcanon.top.

Who owns the headcanon? Margo's terms (updated 7 October 2026) don't say who owns the text you generate, and don't claim a licence over it either. You are told to get permissions before you publish. A public share link makes the selected result readable by anyone with the link.

Who can use it? The terms do not print a minimum age. The founder says 14 or older, and that Google's sign-in age rules apply. Country blocks are not stated. The interface and the generated writing are offered in English, Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish.

Who runs Margo? The about page says an independent project and does not name a person or a company. The founder says Abi, one person based in China, runs it. Contact, deletion, and payment questions go to support@headcanon.top. The public updates page begins on 7 October 2026.
